NEW DELHI: The Indian government has banned with immediate effect the training and exhibition of tiger’s monkeys bears panthers and dogs by circus units in the country.

Orders to this effect have been sent by the government minister to state governments an official release said.

An official notification was issued to this effect on March 2 under section 22 of prevention of cruelty to animal’s act of 1960. This section deals with the exhibition of animals to which the public is admitted through the sale of tickets.

The government said it had noted that circuses keep animals in dingy transport cages which do not allow them even the liberty of movement.
