PUNE: Like “Garibi (poverty) Hatao” of 1970s Bekari Hatao {remove unemployment) may be the main slogan of the Congress I in the forthcoming polls to the lower house of Indian Parliament senior party leader Vasant Sathe has said.

Speaking to reporters at Pune in western India he said that the party high command had already accepted this plank to be included in its election manifesto. The party is banking on the issue of stability and the central leadership has been advised to project during the poll campaign abolition of unemployment as the chief mission of the Congress-I government he said.

The electorate had three clear cut choices. BJP’s “communalism” Janata Dal’s “casteism” and his party’s “stable nationalism” he said.

Admitting that his party had in the past given concessions to minorities “for the sake of a vote-bank” the former union minister-said the party leadership had been asked to rectify this policy by showing “equal respect to all religious groups without favoring anyone”
