NEW DELHI: Police arrested five persons for causing damage to Rajghat Gandhi’s mausoleum here Friday morning.
According to the police workers of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) who are camping nearby for Friday’s public rally visited the mausoleum and attempted to enter the complex with their shoes on.
A heated verbal exchange with the Rajghat staff led to angry workers storming the Samadhi police said. The sources said that some of the persons hit the donation pot with a stone and extinguished the flame.
Tension prevailed at Rajghat and police reinforcements were rushed to the spot. At least five persons were arrested for showing disrespect to the Samadhi causing damage to public property and disturbing Peace police said.
