NEW DELHI: The Indian Govt has decided to implement a Rs 190 million plan to protect the country’s elephant population and clamp a total ban on the trade in ivory to eliminate poaching.
An official press release said the planning commission has approved a Rs 40 million outlay for 1991-92 for the elephant project.
The project gives top most priority to 11 identified areas with viable elephant populations.
