AMRITSAR: A top militant Bhai Satnam Singh Satta alias Chinna was killed along with his two associates in an encounter with the Uttar Pradesh police on the outskirts of village Pooranpur in Pilibhit district last week.
According to information received by the Majitha district police here Tuesday two U.P. police constables were also killed in the encounter.
Senior police officials said here Bhai Satta was deputy chief of the Bhindranwale Tigers Force of Khalistan formed by Panthic Committee member Baba Gurbachan Singh Manochahal. He was involved in more than 200 cases in Punjab Delhi and Uttar Pradesh and carried a total reward of Rs.10 lakhs on his head.
After the killing of Sukhwinder Singh Sanga who had formed his own BTKF outfit of breakaway militants of Manochahal on November 3 last year Satta is the second major success achieved by the security forces the DIG border range GS Buller said.
The other two killed with Bhai Satta are believed to be Bhai Baljit Singh Khalsa and Bhai Paramjit Singh Kalla who also carried rewards on their heads. Khalsa was wanted by the Delhi police for recent bomb blasts police officials said.
The death of Bhai Satta was confirmed by his relatives who were shown his photographs sent by the U.P. police.
Bhai Satta is reported to have fled to U.P. after the Holla Mohalla festival at Anandpur Sahib on February 28. He was married and has two sons.
Bhai Satta was earlier deputy leader of the Khalistan Commando Force of Malikiat Singh Ajnala faction but after the arrest of Ajnala during Operation Black Thunder from Golden. Temple he formed his Bhindranwale Tigers Force of Khalistan and became its deputy.
