NEW DELHI: Chandra Shekhar March S had offered a probe into the alleged surveillance on former premier Rajiv Gandhi’s residence here and did not rule out the possibility of involvement of some “bigwigs” in the act.
The prime minister agreed to the opposition charge that top people were involved in the surveillance on Rajiv Gandhi. Interrogation of the two cops belonging to the Haryana state police who have been arrested in this connection indicated that the surveillance could not have been ordered by personnel of the rank of a police inspector he said.
Replying to clarifications sought by members in the upper house (Rajya Sabha) on a Suo Moto Statement made by him on the issue Shekharsaid the state police had to obtain prior permission from Delhi administration check on someone in the capital but this permission was not sought.
Earlier Rajiv Gandhi’s Congress-I party members staged a walkout after Chandra Shekhar’s statement saying it was unsatisfactory. Congress-I leader P Shiv Shankar said the members would Stay away from the house till “adequate” action was taken against those responsible incident.
