NEW DELHI: Kuwait has expressed its inability to permit India immediately to open its embassy in Kuwait for the present according to media reports. Consequently India’s ambassador to Kuwait Budhiraja is camping here without any assignment and is uncertain about the next move. Kuwaits official stand is that supplies of essential commodities and services such as water and electricity remain to be restored it is really unhappy with the Government of India’s policy vis-a-vis the occupation of Kuwait by Iraq and the subsequent war. The Kuwaiti envoy in those days tried to meet India’s foreign minister to explain his country’s stand but the Indian minister did not give time. In fact the then Indian foreign minister Inder Kumar Gujral was one of the few foreign dignitaries who had visited Kuwait to accord legitimacy to its occupation by Iraq according to the Kuwaiti sources.
