NEW DELHI: An inquiry commission has held that Jagdev Singh Khudian the then MP from Punjab was killed.
The commission has asked the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to further probe the murder and the role of the Punjab Police in investigating the crime.
JS Khudian who was elected to Parliament from Faridkot constituency in November 1989 was found missing from his native village on December 281989. His body was recovered on Jan 3 last year from a canal near his house. Later a one-man inquiry commission led by Justice Harbans Singh Rai was set up to investigate the case.
In his 28-page report tabled in Lok Sabha (lower house) Monday Justice Rai of the Punjab and Haryana High Court held that Khudian had not drowned or committed suicide but was killed and charged the Punjab Police with inaction leading to evaporation of material clues in solving the crime.
He observed that there was no material to give any finding if police inaction was due to inefficiency or willfulness and recommended that the murder mystery of Khudian along with the conduct of the investigating office should be looked into by an independent agency.
