NEW DELHI: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Murali Manohar Joshi Friday clarified that there was no difference of opinion among senior leaders of his party on the Masjid issue.
Joshi told PTI the party was unanimous in taking the decision to associate itself fully in the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) protest before the Indian parliament on April 4 to press for its demand for the construction of a temple at Babri Masjid, a 16th century Mosque which Hindus claim is the birth place of Rama, in Ayodhya (Uttar Pradesh),
Joshi was replying to questions by reporters about the reported interview of party leader Atal Bihari Vajpayee where Vajpayee had said he would not personally support any BJP or VHP demand for demolition of Babri Masjid.
He said on the contrary, the BJP plenary in Jaipur (Rajasthan) recently resolved to work with renewed zeal for the construction of the Ram Temple.
