NEW DELHI: The Saudi Arabian embassy here denied any relation or role of its government of religious scholars with the reported mediation efforts of Saudi arms dealers Adnan Khashoggi on the Ayodhya Mosque issue,

In a statement the Saudi ambassador Fouad S Mufti said the kingdom and its religious scholars strongly condemn the dragging of their name in the rumours.

Saudi Arabia firmly believes that the wise Indian people are capable of solving their problems by themselves and the able eminent Muslim Ulama of India are competent to shoulder their religious and national responsibilities without any mediation from any side or any fatwa (religious decree) from aboard specially in regard to issues on which there is unanimity and consensus among the Muslim Ulamas, as also this is, not a monopoly of anyone confined to any particular country.

The Saudi ambassador appealed to all those concerned with the issue not to believe any rumours and treat whatever was said about the alleged role or proposal of Khasoggi or anyone else as his personal and purely individual move, having no relation with the kingdom of Saudi Arabia or anyone of its Ulamas.
