JALANDHAR: A meeting of leaders of various democratic and secular forces called for the grant E of internal autonomy to Punjab and other states and decentralization of power up to the village level. India should also be made a real federal state. The meeting was attended by representatives of the Janata Dal the Janata Morcha Internationalist Democratic Party Shoshit Dal Front and Indian People’s Party. Mr Teja Singh Tiwana president of the Janata Dal Punjab presided.
A resolution passed at the meeting said that India was a multinational state and the problems of Punjab Assam and Kashmir were the result of denial of democratic and economic rights.
The meeting expressed concern at the rise of fundamentalism in the country.
According to Dr Jasbir Singh Dosanjh a nine-member committee was set up to develop a democratic and secular movement to attain internal autonomy for Punjab
A seminar on “internal autonomy” for Punjab would also be organized here on February 24.
