CALCUTTA: Mother Teresa led a mass prayer for world peace at a function to celebrate the 207th anniversary of Asiatic Society before she received the

“Indira Gandhi Gold Plaque” for her outstanding contribution to international understanding and peace.

The plaque is awarded annually to an eminent person of international repute for making significant contribution to inter-cultural cooperation towards human progress. In her short speech the octogenarian Noble Peace prize winner said she would pray for being worthy to serve the suffering humanity all over the world. Give them through our hands this day their daily bread and by our understanding love give peace and joy she said.

The society-instituted Tagore birth centenary plaque was awarded to Satyajit Ray in Absentia for his conspicuously important contribution to juvenile literature.
