NEW DELHI: Belgium fought a gallant battle and found a last minute equaliser against force last year’s runners-up south Korea to hold them 3-3 (halftime 0-1) draw in the fifth Indira Gandhi memorial gold cup hockey tournament here on Jan 20th

While for the Koreans Captain Park Sin Heum scored a brace and Hong Kyung sub contributed the other substitute Weydits Phillippe struck twice and Vander Gracchi-D once for Belgium to provide a keenly fought match to the sparse holiday crowd.

The draw may cost the Koreans dearly as they have only eight points from their all six matches. On the other hand today’s result brightened India’s chances for the second spot. India has five points from four outings

A Korean victory today would have diminished India’s chances as it would have fetched nine points for Korea who too have a massive goal average. They had trounced Poland 5-1 and Kenya 8-1.

Today’s draw took Belgium to five points from as many matches. They had beaten Holland 1-0 and Poland 8-0 while they lost 1-2 to India and 0-2 to the Soviet Union who are leading the table with nine points from five matches
