My name is Navreet Kaur Basati I live in Chicago Illinois. Prospect Hts (a suburb of Chicago). My parents’ names are S Thakkar S. Basati & Mrs. Rajinder Kaur Basati.
I am 14 years old and am in 10th grade in Wheeling High School.
I play violin sitar and harmonium. I have earned 5 gold and 1 silver medal on solos or duets on my violin.
I went to Germany Italy Austria and Switzerland with Wheeling High School’s band and orchestra. I play my violin in Wheeling High School Symphony Orchestra Wheeling High School Chamber Orchestra and Chicago’s Protege Philharmonic Orchestra. Wheeling High School Orchestra takes one trip a year to somewhere in the U.S. and one trip every three years outside of the U.S The Protege Orchestra is going to Greece and Russia next year for 2 weeks and we are giving a few concerts there. The Protege Orchestra travels around the U.S. and gives concerts in Chicago’s Orchestra Hall.
Just recently I went to a shabad Gurbani competition in which my group won a trophy for exemplary playing. I played this shabad on my sitar. i was the only one who played sitar out of 40 groups of children Competition was held in Pittsburgh PA. On my harmonium I play in my Gurudwara and on religious occasions. I also enjoy singing Hindi and Punjabi songs along with my harmonium.
I sing Punjabi songs at parties and on stage I also sing Gurbani in my Gurudwara.
I keep myself busy after school because | am involved in a| few activities. In fall I play tennis. In winter i am in Pom Poms a dance group. In spring I play badminton. All year round I am involved in debate and AFS an International Friendship club.
I have all Honors on college reparatory Classes.
I plan to go to any good college which accepts me.
I plan to be a child psychologist because I love kids and behaviors.
My philosophy in life Don’t worry about anything because the Big Guy up that is doing all the worrying for you.
