ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is ready to send an additional 5000 troops to Riyadh Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif stated here Jan 10.

In the last three months a total of 5000 Pakistani troops have already been dispatched to Riyadh to assist Saudi Arabia face the Iraq threat.

Responding to questions from reporters Sharif said if need be another 5000 Pakistani troops are ready to leave.

He said Pakistan had arrived at a bilateral understanding with Saudi Arabia and the additional troops would be rushed if necessary under this arrangement.

Sharif reiterated that the only solution to the Gulf crisis was in the unconditional withdrawal of Iraqi troops from Kuwait.

Pakistan Iran and Turkey had in their trilateral meeting called for an emergency session of the organisations of Islamic conference to find a peaceful solution to the Gulf crisis.
