JOHANNESBURG: India’s tinsel superstar Amitabh Bachchan and his musical show world Amitabh tour captivated the hearts and mind of South Africa’s Indian community during their two performances in Durban and Johannesburg on over the weekend. More than 60000 fans witnessed the show at the Kings Park stadium in Durban while more than 40000 attended in Johannesburg.

Amitabh Bachchan was accompanied by actress Sri Devi and a string of other film stars singers and the Kalyanji-Anandji orchestra.

 NEW DELHI: The newly-formed forum for democracy and secularism has called on journalists to evolve a code of ethics to ensure that they do not incite communal passions with their writings. Journalists have a crucial role in maintaining peace and reassuring the public during outbreak of communal riots members of the forum said here on Jan 8.

Addressing a press conference at the end of a day-long sit-in outside the Indian newspaper society building here the members said journalists had to themselves evolve a code of ethics to ensure that they did not incite passions with their writings.

A Wasey coordination committee member cited instances of biased reports and false stories carried by newspapers during the recent riots in different parts of the country.

Such unscrupulous papers fulled the flames of communal hatred and ignited communal passions by inflammatory utterances and mischievous propaganda he said.

Instead newspapers had given scant Coverage to the tales of heroism and courage of individuals.
