BOMBAY: Several incidents of arms smuggling peddling of narcotics and extortion here have been attributed to Punjab militants who have infiltrated into the city according to Indian newspapers.

Senior police officials said members of the Khalistan Commando Force hold secret meetings here to chalk out plans for causing disturbances in different parts of the country.

The recent killing of three police personnel has led to the belief that the militants have forced themselves on Sikh families and threatened them with dire consequences if they are reported to the authorities. They pose as relatives of local Sikh families.

The police are combing suspected militant hideouts with the state Home Department giving them full freedom for the investigations and there is no interference from the government.
