Eighteen-year-old Manjit Singh of State College of Sports Jalandhar improved upon his own record in shot put for senior boys by hurling the metal ball to a distance of 16.55 meters. His previous record was 15.82 meters.
Gurpreet Singh (Ludhiana) got the silver with 13.97 meters while Gurdev Singh (Jalandhar) with 13.06 meters finished third. In 200 meters for women there was little to choose between Deepinder Kaur (Ludhiana) and Manbir Kaur until the last few meters. But with a sudden change of pace Deepinder pipped Manbir timed 28 sec to carry the silver while Tarjinder Kaur (Punjab Police) got the bronze with 28. 30seconds.
Rani Bhatti (Ammnitsar) won the gold in 1500 meters for women in 4 mts 57.02 sec Daljit Kaur (Gurdaspur) with a timing of 5 mts 14 sec stood second while Charanjit (Gurdaspur) had to content with the bronze when she clocked 5 mts 15 seconds.
Aruna Rani (Jalandhar) once again proved her supremacy in 3000 meters recently though she failed to shatter the old record of 10:17.5 sec set by Usha Ranj.
