According to The Telegraph newspaper S. Bandopadhyaya the director of investigations said that the notice was whether players and coaches were submitting their returns according to their income from the clubs.
Income-tax officials said they were looking into payments made to players and of all the three major clubs of the city.
He said the notices to each of the clubs were issued in May this year and after initial delays East Bengal Club was extending cooperation regarding payments to players. Mobun Bagan club has also been forthcoming with details.
An income-tax official said they were compelled to take punitive action against Mohammedan Sporting because they were adopting “dilatory tactics”.
