NEW DELHI: V.P. Singh has blamed the Bharatiya Janata Party for the worsening communal situation in the country.

‘Talking to newsmen here Singh said the BJP stand on the Ayodhya issue (regarding the temple Mosque tangle) had “certainly had its impact”.

You see basically it is a problem of mixing religion with politics”, he said.

‘Singh said the present communal situation was very serious and ‘such extensive loss of lives and property and, more so, the atmosphere which had deteriorated, was ‘of concern.

‘Hundreds of people have died in communal clashes all over the country.

Singh said what had happened was that a certain atmosphere had been built up and in such # situation even a small spark could ignite a big fire. The immediate way out of this problem would be for all forces to go 0 the people for creating an atmosphere of communal harmony.

“We may be approaching the people not only on the: political circuit but also in other circuits like well-meaning people and social ‘organisations. The whole gamut of national unity and emotional integrity will be made the main plank”, he said.
