HISAR: Haryana Chief Minister Bhajan Lal on Aug, 29, called upon Prime Minister Narasimha Rao to delink the river water and territorial issues and urged him to ensure early resumption of work on the SYL canal.
The Chief Minister said Congress members of Parliament from Haryana had made an identical appeal to the Prime Minister. The Chief Minister said Narasimha Rao gave an assurance to the MPs from the state that he would discuss the issue with Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh, He said the he had told the Prime Minister that the Chandigarh, and Fazilka Abohar issues could Walt, while work on the SYL eanal must be started, He said he wanted the whole canal to be completed within six months of starting the work.
