CHANDIGARH: Punjab Director General of Police K.P.S.Gill is likely to get another extension for one year; His present tenure expires on December 31.
Chief Minister Beant Singh told newsmen here on Nov.19 he had already written to the Center followed by a reminder last week in this regard.
He said the State Government had initiated steps to curtail the expenditure on police in view of the improvement in the law and order situation in the state. As a Step in this direction, the State Government has conveyed to the Center that 100 companies of the central security forces withdrawn from Punjab for deployment in the states where elections are being held were not required here anymore.
Referring to the elections to the general House of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, the chief minister said Center had been requested to start the process of delimitation of constituencies.
However, the State Government Was yet lo receives any response to the communication.
Beant Singh said the winter session of the Vidhan Sabha would be convened either in the last week of December or in early January.
