CHANDIGARH: The Punjab Chief Minister, Beant Singh, was sought to be impleaded as a party called before the High Court in person in the Mansa selections case for having directly interfered with the selection process.

The well-known jurist, Rajinder Sachar, appearing on behalf of the petitioner, Jasbir Singh, made this contention before a division bench of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, on Sept.19.

The High Court was earlier provided with additional evidence according to which the Chief Minister had allegedly signed letters to “accommodate” 13 candidates in different clerical posts, which were sent to the then Deputy Commissioner of the newly created district of Mansra, Swaran Singh. Rajinder Sachar pleaded before a division bench that the political secretary of the CM, Gurmeet Singh, too had issued Letters of recommendation to the then D.C. Swaran Singh at the behest of the CM and right “under his nose.” “It was however, very stupid on the part of the person who issued letters to ask for accommodating the favored candidates under his own signatures,” claimed Sachar. He sought the Chief Minister’s personal appearance in the court.
