ERODE (PTI): Notorious sandalwood smuggler Veerappan, struck again after a 15month gap Sept.17, killing three Special Task Force (STF) personnel in an encounter at Sorkkam in Tamil Nadu’s Priya district. He used the advantage of being in a fortified position to ambush the STF personnel, according to the Tamil Nadu Additional Director-general of Police (ADGP), W.L. Dawaram. “Our personnel were at disadvantage in going to search for Veerappan and were caught by surprise,” the ADGP, who led the guard of honor given to the de~ ceased personnel at the government hospital here, told re porters. ‘The loss suffered was a “small setback’ but the efforts of the STF would not end until the brigand was ‘finished off,” he said.
