BANGALORE (PTI): The Cogentrix, one of the leading power generating companies in the United States has decided to set up a 100 mw capacity thermal power plant at coastal city of Mangalore.

Addressing a Press conference here, Karnataka deputy chief minister S. M. Krishna said a delegation of the Cogentrix Company would arrive in the city for a final discussion on the power Tariff agreement with Kamataka government.

Krishna said the proposal of the Cogentrix and Hok International ‘limited for establishing $00 mw power plant at Hospet in Bellary district and already been cleared by the national foreign investment promotion board.

Krishna said the government in its bid to boost power generation had thrown the sector for private Participation.

He said the government to add 9,000 mw of power to existing capacity in the state the 2000; the deputy chief minister defended the government decision to permit private participation in Hydel power generation saying that Karantaka power corporation had enough projects hand. The government has allowed Tapco firm to set up 600 mw Hydel power plant in Alamatti Dam Area. He said, KPC had already engaged in the completion of Kadra power Project, expected to be commissioned by 1996, Kodasalli, by 1977 and Gerusoppe Tailrace by 1983.
