AHMEDABAD: Kulwinder alias Kewal Singh, militant and prime Suspect in the recent Delhi blast outside the Youth Congress office, committed suicide by consuming cyanide on the highway at Kadodara village, near Surat, on Sept.22.
He reportedly ended his life when he was cornered by the Punjab police assisted by the policemen of state’s antiterrorist squad.
According to the Punjab police, Kulwinder, a self-styled commander of the Bhindranwale Tiger Force of Khalistan (BTFK) was allegedly involved in over 220 murders and violent incidents in Punjab, Maharashtra, M.P. and Gujarat. Kulwinder was a Close associate of another suspect in the Delhi blast, the leader of the Khalistan Liberation Force (KLE), Kuldip Singh Kipa.
Recently, he was involved in kidnapping a relative of the Punjab chief minister, Beant Singh from Pune. He also was involved in the killing of a Punjab assistant sub inspector, Sukhchan Singh, at Khambholaj village in Kaira district, Gujarat,
Soon after the Delhi blast, the Punjab DGP, K.P.S.Gill, had received information that both Kulwinder and Kipa had escaped cither towards M.P. or Gujarat along with two other militants, Sukhwinder alias Sukha and Manjinder Isst. Gill contacted the Gujarat police and a police party comprising 20 personnel, headed by an SP (operation) from Bhatinda, was sent here Wednesday.
The police took up positions and cornered Kulwinder as soon as he got off the truck. Finding it impossible to escape even using his gun, Kulwinder swallowed a cyanide capsule he was carrying. He col lapsed within seconds, the police said.
The police could not trace Kuldip Singh, Sukhvinder Singh and Manjinder Singh Issi. The police also suspect that the RDX used in the Delhi blast was procured by Kulwinderand Kuldip Singh from the consignments smuggled through Rajasthan by another top militant, Malkiat Singh Ajnala.
