NEW DELHI: Gangster Subhashsinh Thakur, who is alleged to have been provided accommodation at the NTPC guest house in the capital by Kalpanth Rai, has claimed that he had met former Prime Minister Chandrasekhar before his arrest.

In an interview, the accused in the TADA case also claimed that Rai was innocent. He said that the CBI and the Co had connived to implicate the former Union Food Minister in the case, “Sab milgaye hain (They are all hand in glove),” he said.

Thakur alleged that the CBI had forcibly inserted “jabardasti dal diya Kalpnath Rai’s name in his statement.

Thakur said he and his gang members had met Chandrasekhar for whom he had earlier campaigned, to facilitate their surrender. He claimed he had revealed this to the CBI.

Interestingly enough, Chandrasekhar’s political secretary, H.N. Sharma, had, in a statement as early as August 11,1993, told the CBI that Thakur had indeed campaigned for the former Prime Minister in February, 1992.

He had revealed that Thakur and his associates had sought a meeting with Chandrasekhar r and met him at his Bhondsi Ashram.

“I came to know that they had discussed with Shri Chandrasekhar ji their pending criminal cases with the Mumbai Police and wanted the help of Shri Chandrasekhar for surrendering before the Mumbai police,” said Sharma in the statement.

He added that the former Prime Minister had told him that the had “advised them to surrender to the Mumbai police.”

Breaking down at Justice Dhingra’s Court, Rai had complained that he was not getting justice, when his lawyers tried to dissuade him from speaking out, he blurted,” Main mare ko taiyaar hun, par aaj to main boloonga (I am ready to die, but I will speak out today),” he had said.

“I’m not getting justice, This is nothing judicial despotism. Here only injustice is carried out,” he repeated; complained. He blamed Prime Minister Narasimha Rao for his plight, while calling the CBI “bloody bogus.”
