BANGALORE: A middle-aged Bahraini national was arrested here Monday for allegedly at- tempting to marry a 13-yr-old Muslim girl and for kidnapping and threatening her 14-yr-old sister.
Deputy Commissioner of police Kempaiah said the girls” father, Another Arab held an auto rickshaw driver, and the agent, who introduced the Arab to the impoverished family, was also held.
The Arab had paid R.s 5000 to the girl’s father, promising to pay Rs25, 000 more after the marriage ‘with the 13-yr-old Farida Begum. However, the marriage could not be gone through as the girl’s uncle: informed police, he said.
Kempaiah said after these plans collapsed, efforts were made by the family and the Arab to gather daughter, Zaheeda Begum, ‘married to him. She was ill.
