ANANTNAG: A bomb in a motor scooter exploded near the headquarters of a Muslim rebel group in Kashmir, killing six people and wounding 17, police said July 28. Clashes between army soldiers and rebels have killed 17 others since Saturday, throughout the northern state where Muslim separatists are fighting for an independent homeland.

Saturday’s explosion in Anantnag, 35 miles south of the State capital of Srinagar, damaged 26 houses, a police officer said.
