NEW DELHI: Former Prime Minister P.Y. Narasimha Rao was not present in New York on the dates on which NRI businessman Lakhu bhai Pathak claims he met him there and received the assurance about his work being done, Delhi High Court was told on July 22nd. As the court resumed hearing arguments on Mr. Rao’s petition against being summoned as an accused in the & bhai Pathak cheating case, his. Kapil Sibal told Justice SK. Mahajan that “We are prepared to State on affidavit that Mr. Rao was not present in New York on December 2223, 1983.”

Queried by the judge whether Mr. Rao was present elsewhere in the United States on those days, Mr. Sibal said that he was not present anywhere in the United States. Mr. Sibal had earlier described as a“’ cock and bull story” complainant Lakhu bhai pathak’s submission in Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Prem Kumar’s court that he gave $100,000 to tantrik Chandraswami to secure an Indian Government contract for newsprint after receiving Mr. Rao’s purported assurance.
