NEW DELHI: India deployed army throughout the country to take care of Muslim resentment after Hindu fundamentalists destroyed the Babri masjid at Ayodhya on Dec.6. The operation cost the Indian army Rs 300 crore according to official sources. The army authorities said that they had Rs 250 crore earmarked for internal security duties in Punjab Kashmir and Assam. But the sudden eruption of violence on the Ayodhya issue had forced it to spend much more than was anticipated. Evidently the Indian army authorities are pulling pressure on the finance ministry to set apart more money for the army. Originally the army had proposed Rs 1000 crore for security duties of the army alone but the financed ministry had given only Rs 250 crore The Ayodhya-related use of the army involved its movement across U.P West Bengal Gujarat Rajasthan Maharashtra and Karnataka.
