NEW DELHI: Several organizations have condemned the demolition of the Babri Masjid by kar sevaks at Ayodhya on Dec.6.

A delegation of artists and academicians met the President Shankar Dayal Sharma on Dec.7 to demand that construction of the temple started by the VHP be stopped immediately.

In a memorandum to the President members of the Safdar Hashmi Memorial Trust and other academicians demanded that the Central Government should immediately take over the entire disputed area.

They have also sought the arrest of all the political leaders involved in demolishing the mosque including VHP chief Ashok Singhal BJP leaders L.K.Advani Dr.M.M.Joshi and Swami Vamadev Chairman of the Margadarshak mandal.

Other demands included reconstructing the mosque and declaring a protected monument. Prominent among those who signed the memorandum were Shabnam Hashmi Professor K.N.Panikkar Bhishm Sahni Prof Rajni Kothari Prahbat Patnaik Dr.Rajeev Bhargava Prof Dinesh Mohan and others.

Several women’s organizations have unanimously condemned the Sangh parivar for dividing the nation on religious lines Director of the Joint Women’s Program Jyotsna Chatterji has demanded that all the communal paretic’s should be banned.

The Delhi Janvadi Mabila Federation has also expressed shock at the demolition of the Masjid by kar sevaks. General Secretary of the organization Amarjeet Kaur has appealed to women students and youth to help in maintaining peace and to check the forces which indulge in provocative speeches or acts. Members of the organization have also urged the Government to take prompt administrative steps to check further deterioration of the situation.

The National Federation of Indian Women has criticized the Kalyan Singh Government for failing to protect the Masjid despite a written assurance to obey the Supreme Court verdict. General Secretary of the organization Tara Reddy said that the U P Government actively collided with religious fanatics in their act of vandalism. She also condemned the BJP for ruining the secular fabric of the country for political gains.

Organization members did not spare the Prime Minister either criticizing him for permitting the kar seva and not forestalling the game of betrayal played by fascist Hindu forces.

The Janwadi Lekhak Sangh also said that the P M had lost all credibility because his Government could not protect the monument from being demolished.

All India Bhrashtachar Virodhi Morcha strongly condemned the merciless beating of journalists by kar sevaks on Sunday. The organization will be starting ahwan satyagrahain front of the BJP office soon till the BJP leaders tender an unqualified apology for the ghastly incident.
