WASHINGTON, D.C: A conference tiled Islam and West Cooperation not confrontation” was held On Oct.26 at the National Press Club. Over 300 delegates from all over the Islamic world gathered to call for cooperation between the west and Islamic world. Representatives of the World Sikh Organization were invited to the conference by its chairman Mr. Yaser Brushnaq.

Torricelli, prominent U.S. Congressman who chaired one of the sessions in his address called for an end to Indian Government’s repression of Sikhs and Muslims in India. He mentioned the events of 1984 when India attacked the Golden Temple to suppress Sikhs demand for independence and its subsequent acts of repression. A similar story was being repeated in Kashmir.

Mr. Sajjan Singh Bhangu, representative of the World Sikh Organization called for support for the Sikh Liberation struggle and explained to the delegates how Sikh aspirations were being suppressed by India. He received an excellent response from the distinguished gathering which included Dr.lyjaz Gelani, senior adviser to former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif of Pakistan, Dr.John Esposito of Georgetown University and Mr.Fadeel ul Arun, Secretary Gen. American Council for Public Affairs.
