MADRAS(PTI):Two Indian Premiers, late Rajiv Gandhi and V.P.Singh, had called upon Sri Lankan militant organization, LTTE, to give up its demand for a separate Tamil Eelam and settle for state autonomy, former Tamil Nadu chief minister K Karunanidhi said Oct.10.

He said the requests were made at meetings held by him in his capacity as chief minister, with Sri Lankan Tamil militant groups.

The LTTE had then refused to accept state autonomy, though the other groups were ready to settle for it, the DMK chief said, adding that three rounds of discussions had been held by him with LTTE representatives.
