NEW DELHI (PTI): Admiral V.S.Shekhawat Sept.30 took over as the new chief of Indian Naval staff after a traditional handing over of baton ceremony here.

A highly decorated submariner, Admiral Shekawat was presented a guard of honor by smartly tumed Out men in whites on the lush green lawns of the south block in the capital before being escorted to his office.

He received the admiral’s baton from his pedecessor, admiral L.Ramdas who retired Thursday after 41 years of distinguished service in the Indian navy. The new naval chief then signed in signal ling his formal taking over command of the fifth largest navy in the world.

A recipient of the Param Vishist Seva Medal (PVSM), Au Vishist Seva Medal (AVSM), Vir Chakra for gallantry in 1971 Indo Pak conflict, is a keen mountaineer and has been on number of Indian mountaineering expeditions.
