CA: Officials in Irvine pumped 43 shots into a runaway cow on Nov.10.
‘The saga of the cops and the cow began in the predawn hours Sunday, when the cow wandered onto the San Diego Freeway. Police in patrol cars tried to herd it, but it panicked and stampeded along the freeway in the wrong direction.
An Irvine police spokesman said that officers opened fire because the cow was a danger to motorists, but he was at a loss to explain why police had to shootit43 times over a 20minute period before killing it, He pointed out that it was a moving target, traveling at about 20 miles an hour.
The cow was brought down after 41 shots were fired. The last two shots were to the head, to put the animal out of its misery.
Another mystery confronting authorities was where the cow came from. There are no farms in the area.
