CALCUTTA EASTERN INDIA (PTI): Bomb explosions clashes teargasing and police firing during the 24hour strike in west Bengal state left one person dead and over 130 seriously injured on Nov.6.

Midnapore witnessed the worst violence which left 67 people seriously injured in clashes according to District Magistrate P Das.

He said the clashes between the Congress-I and ruling communist party of India Marxist (CPIM) occurred at Ghatal Midnapore town Tamluk Haldia Chandipur Keshpur Keshiary Garbeta and Sabong.

Telephone exchanges at Kharagpur Midnapore and Contai were ransacked as also the 20 state and central government offices in the district.

West Bengal chief minister Jyoti Basu told newsmen here that one person was killed in a clash between pro and antistrike people at llama bazar in Birbhum district.

State Congress-I chief Somen Mitra claimed the person who died was a Congress-I activist.

In Calcutta the police fired four rounds after 32 rounds of teargas proved ineffective in controlling Congress-I activists who hurled bombs on passing vehicles in Bowbazar

In Hazra tension mounted as federal minister of state for sports Ms.Mamata Banerjee led a huge procession. The police fired teargas shells to separate two clashing groups.
