KABUL: The Taliban militia hanged two aides of former President Najibullah last week, as it pursued government forces that retreated from the devastated Afghan capital. It also imposed Islamic code on the city, ordering women not to report for work. Meanwhile, Afghanistan President Burhanuddin Rabbani called on his people to resist the takeover, Najibullah’s aides, whom the radio identified only as General Jafzar and Tokhi, were executed a day after he met the same fate. Radio Kabul called them “accomplices” of Najibullah, who led a Moscow backed regime from 1986 until he was overthrown in 1992 by an alliance of Islamic guerrillas.
