NEW DELHE: In 4 major breakthroughs, the Interpol lust week arrested Amir Bhai, lucky player in the sensational Jain Hawala casein Hong Kong, Confirming this here, P.C. Sharma, a Joint Director in the CBI and in-charge of the Interpol operations in India, said that consistent efforts of the agency had finally paid the dividends. He said that efforts would now be made to extradite Amir Bhai from Hong Kong soon; He said that Interpol’s Hong Kong office had confirmed Amir Bhai’s arrest.
Amir Bhai was the vital missing link in the multi-Crore Jain Hawala case and the CBI was desperately trying to arrest him for several years, the pressure on the agency mounted particularly when several sitting Union ministers and prominent leaders of political parties, public servants und others were charge sheeted. While the seized diaries of the prime accused S,K. Jain revealed the existence of Amir Bhai, the claim was disputed by those charge sheeted saying that it was a cock and bull story.
According to the Jain’s diaries, Amir Bhai sent Rs. 63 Crore to India to S.K. Jain through Hawala operations during 1988-91 and the same was distributed to politicians, bureaucrats and others. The diaries gave a detailed account of money received from Amir Bhai and distributed during the three years. The account was maintained on a monthly basis. A CBI team headed by P.C. Sharma had visited Dubai. The team had established contacts there and the agency was hopeful that its persistent efforts would bear fruits. Incidentally, Amir Bhai is one of the biggest Hawala operators in the world. His operations run all over the world and INS transactions rum into billions of dollars every year, ‘This unaccounted money laundering business is an industry m Dubai from where Amur Bhai operates.
Amir Bhai had dealings with big businessmen in the country other than the Jains also and his arrest might unearth a series of Hawala operations. He hails from Bombay and has properties worth Crore of rupees in there.
