NEW DELHI: Adding to the growing incidence of sexual assaults on minors in the Indian Capital a girl was gang raped while another was saved from the clutches of her rapist by the timely intervention of a passing soldier.
In the first incident a 13-yearold-girl eking out a living as a road-side hawker was allegedly waylaid gagged and gang-raped for hours inside a public toilet in Dakshinpuri on Oct.21
According to sources the girl was returning home late in the evening when five unidentified young men pounced on her at a secluded spot. They forced her to a nearby toilet and confined her there and took turns to repeatedly rape her.
The rapists finally allowed her to go home around midnight five hours after her ordeal began.
In the other incident a minor girl going home on Oct22 was allegedly accosted by a youth on Subhash Marg and taken to a deserted spot near the Red Fort where her assailant reportedly proceeded to sexually assault her.
Fortunately for the victim a soldier who was patrolling the Red Fort happened to reach the scene and overpowered the youth before he could make a getaway.
