CHANDIGARH (PTI): The captain of Indian Hockey team, Pargat Singh, has decided to seek retirement from international hockey.
Pargat Singh, who returned to India, recently, has conveyed his decision to the Indian Hockey Federation (IHF),
The ace hockey player represented India in 206 international encounters, including the Lahore World Cup, Barcelona Olympic games, and player represented India in 206 international encounters, including the Lahore World Cup, Barcelona Olympic games, and led India in 72 games.
He made his debut for India in the 1983 invitation hockey tournament in Hong Kong. Subsequently, he was selected to represent India juniors in the Vancouver junior world cup in 1985.
In recognition of his services to Indian hockey, he was conferred the Arjuna award national award in the sports last year,
Pargat Singh, who recently joined a public sector undertaking of the north Indian border state Punjab government, will continue to play in the domestic circuit for his new employers.
The hockey ace represented Indian railways in the national hockey championship, and also build up a strong rail coach factory team which won several tournaments.
Pargat Singh will devote some of his time for promoting the game by grooming youngsters as a part of the scheme launched by his new employers,
Rated as one of the best fullbacks, he led Asia to victory in the inaugural classic inter-continent hockey tournament held in Kuala Lumpur in December 1990.
He is also the founder president of the hockey players association of India,
