QUEBEC: Judge Jules Descheves is elected by the U.N. General assembly to serve on a tribunal that will try accused war criminals from the former Yugoslavia. Descheves, 70, has a long list of international human nights credentials. The assembly picked seven of the 11 judges needed in its first ballot and Ottawa will be chosen later.
The court, established earlier this year will try people accused of murder, rape, torture, ethnic cleansing and other atrocities. Leis hope, one day the world will wake up and put on trial Indian government and security officials who committed war crimes against the Sikh nation.
