NEW DELHI(PTI): A new round the clock satellite television service of nine channels is to be launched from January 1,1994, focussing on India and Indians living in the Asian region.
The Joint American Indian network is being promoted by a private consoruum of NRI companies in U.S. and the Dr.Jain group of communication enterprises would provide a telecast ime of 24 hours a day (168 hours a week) on launch, Indian promoter DrJ.K Jain told a Press conference here on Sept3. The nine channels include:Religious, moral and spiritual programs: Politics: Children’s programs, Entertainment, Music and Movies: Sports: Current Affairs and News, Medicine, Health, Sex Education and Physical fitness, Business and Economy; Development, Environment, Women’s Issues Citizenship training, continuing education for professionals, Science and Technology, DrJain said.
The service will offer time slots on first come first served basis, he said. No restrictions would be imposed on the programs as long as they conform to the constitution and internationally accepted norms of decency and propriety, he added.
He said the programs would be telecast through two satellites the Statsionar 21 and Asiasat.
As for uplinking of the services, DrJain said if the Indian government did not give his group the permission to do so, the uplinking would be done abroad, he said.
Uplinking for the Statstonar 21 would be done from Moscow as negotiations were completed. The uplinking spot for Asiasat would be announced later, he added.
