TORONTO: Bell’s proposal to raise rates by 40% was declared *unjustified” by the industry’s regular users. In a ruling, CRTC, the Canadian Radio television and Telecommunications Commission said it could find no basis for awarding the country’s most profitable company a rite 1erease. The ruling means the basic residential service in Toronto will stay at $13.70 a month and business tine rates will also remain the same, Bell had applied for the rate hike last February, first in 10 years, saying it needed the increase to offset the dual impact of the economic recession and Jong distance competition.
