NEW DELHI (PTI): Veteran Congress Leader Sharad Pawar on Sep.3 surrendered his Lok Sabha seat putting an end to all Speculations about his immediate shift to the center; He will now remain chief minister of Maharashtra following his election to the state Legislative Council.
Pawar, who had been elected to the state legislative council from the Pune local authorities constituency on Aug.22, tendered his resignation from the Lok Sabha within the 14 day period in which a person had to choose cither of the two seals.
Two days back, Pawar had made it clear that he would continue as a member of the state legislative council saying “my decision has been taken by my party, which deputed me to Maharashtra as chief minister till the assembly elections which are due in March 1995.”
As many as 22 Congress I MPs had recently in a meeting with Prime Minister, P.V.Narasimha Rao, demanded that Pawar be called back to the center as he was sent to Bombay to handle a crisis which no longer existed, Rao has reportedly responded by saying that it was a “good idea.”
Pawar was elected to the Look Sabha from his home constituency of Bar Amati in Pune district from where he had won many assembly and parliamentary elections.
