NEW DELHI: Within a week of All India Qaumi Tanzeem demanding reconstruction of the mosque at the site of the demolished structure, a high level official delegation visited Ayodhya on Sept.7, setting off spiculation about the Government’s move.

The delegation, led by Minister of State for Home (Internal Security), Rajesh Pilot, inspected the site for nearly two hours. Reliable sources said a review of security arrangements was undertaken.

Evidently, the aim of the exercise appeared to give some sort of assurance to the minorities. Talking to reporters in Faizabad, Pilot said his aim was to bridge the gulf “created by the BJP between different sections of the people.” He reiterated that the construction of a temple and a mosque at Ayodhya would be done together by two Separate trusts, but before that the Center would await the Supreme Court’s verdict.
