NEW DELHI, AUG.6 (PTI): Indian finance minister, Dr.Manmohan Singh, has been named the finance minister of the year by “Euro money”; a Europe based independent organization engaged in research of economic and financial matters.
Dr.Singh was chosen for the award, instituted in 1982, in recognition of the “innovative and skillful role played by him in the liberalization of the world’s largest democracy, according to information received here.
This is the second award for Dr.Singh in the last few months. The first award of the finance minister of Asia was conferred on him by “Asia money’ a few months back.
Recent recipients of the Euro money award include Argentine finance minister Domingo Cavallo in 1992, Spanish finance Minister Carlos Solchaga in 1991, Belgian finance minister Phillippe Maystadt in 1990 and Indonesian finance minister Johannes Sumarlin in 1989.
Euro money is known for its publications and keen assessment of international economic trends.
