JALANDHAR, AUG.6: The BSP. (Ambedkar) on Aug.6 demanded action against police officials responsible for allegedly torturing and harassing its workers.
Devi Das Nahar, president of the party, said Mangal Singh, president of the Tam Taran unit of the BSP was illegally detained by Khubi Ram, S.P. (Operations). Dr. William, vice-president of the Stale until, was harassed by the Shah Kot police. False cases were also being registered against party workers.
Karam Chand of the railway colony in Jalandhar was tortured by the police. Both his arms were fractured in police beating. Mohan Kumar, who belongs to Maharashtra, was taken 16 division No.4 police stations and beaten up.
Naharalleged Dhanna, a 12ycar old boy, and Gurbaksh Singh of Phillaur was beaten to death by the police.
Nahar said a six member committee. Of the party would soon meet the SSPs of Jalandhar and Tarn Taran to demand action against the guilty police officials.
