ROHTAK: The Haryana Vikas Party president, Bansi Lal, has demanded dismissal of the state Chief Minister, Bhajan Lal, whose government has come under severe criticism from its own ministers and party leaders.
Addressing a public meeting, here, on Sept.26, Bansi Lal threatened to launch a agitation against the state government if the central leadership of the Congress failed to take action soon.
Leveling charges of “core” corruption and misrule” against Bhajan Lal, Bansi Lal said that a Union Minister, a minister of Haryana and two Congress MPs had “corroborated” the charges against Bhajan Lal, in public, If the charges were being leveled by ministers and party MPs themselves, these could not be ignored, Bansi Lal said and demanded immediate dismissal of the chief minister.
Bansi Lal said that there was no rule of law in the state. Incidents of theft, dacoity and cases of crimes against women had gone up since Bhajan Lal first came to power. Even ministers were indulging in grabbing of private and public lands, he alleged, This had led to a sense of insecurity among common people, he said.
Haryana is today passing through a severe social crisis. “Commercialization, criminalization and communalization of politics have badly weakened the social fabric of the state. Commercialization of politics has led to corruption. Jobs are being given in exchange for money,” Bansi Lal alleged, Bansi Lal held Bhajan Lal and Om Parkash Chauiala responsible for criminalization of politics. He alleged that both Bhajan Lal and Chautala had “misused” police and taken the help of musclemen in winning elections and what had happened in Meham in 1990 was enough to prove his charges.
Both Bhajan Lal and Chautala, Bansi Lal alleged, had openly spreading hatred against one caste or the other and trying to divide the state between “Jats and criminals.”
Through a resolution, the VHP criticized the agricultural policy and termed it “anti-farmer.” It wanted procurement price of wheat to be raised to Rs 500 per quintal and withdrawal of recent increase in the prices of fertilizers, diesel and petrol. The resolution condemned the ban imposed on movement of paddy outside the state.
It demanded that agencies of cooking gas, fertilizers, tractors, tempos and autos be given to cooperative resistance of educated unemployed youths with a view to checking the problem of unemployment. It expressed concern over delay in the completion of the Satluj-Yamuna Link (SYL) canal, and sought its early waters.
