AMRITSAR (PTI): Five militants of the Khalistan Commando Force-Zaffarwal, including its deputy chief Bhai Sham Singh Mattewal, were shot dead by security forces in an encounter in village Mattewal in the northern Indian state of Punjab on Sept.16.

The encounter which lasted for about five hours started with militants firing on the force from a farm house of one Jagir Singh where they were hiding.

A group of armed men killed a cashier of a Gurdwara in Daroli Kalan village in Jalandhar district. The cashier of the gurdwara, identified as Pritam Singh Chakkiwala, had reportedly received several threat letters and was provided with security guards. However, Sept. 16 morning, he sent away the guards. Half an hour later, four armed people with Ak47 assault rifles shot him dead.
